HIGHBURY SCHOOL VISITS DAKOTA BOWLS CENTRE

Despite the rain, the visiting Grades 7 and 8 students had an opportunity to learn how to lawn bowl as part of their Sport Clinic, which also included archery at Dakota Community Centre. Coaches from five of Winnipeg's lawn bowling clubs spent several hours in the declining weather conditions to provide an introduction to the sport: placing and using the mat, delivering the jack, hand signals and jack centring, gripping and aiming the bowl, and picking sides for the game that followed.

the day a

The following snaps indicate that even rain doesn't stop play. Most of the students took something away with them--even if it was wet clothing.

The artificial green eventually became waterlogged and the third group of twenty students were obviously disappointed. They have been offered an opportunity to return later for their turn to bowl. In fact, all of the keen ones have been invited to join the other juniors who already belong to one of our lawn bowling clubs.
